Interesting ways to lose weight

I’m constantly looking for help for you guys when it comes to weight loss and healthy living. I recently came across some pretty interesting ways to lose weight that I wanted to share.

1. Eat with your non-dominant hand.  Joy Bauer suggests to eat with your left hand if you’re right handed and vice versa. You may feel awkward at first but you will eat 30% less and actually pay attention to your food instead of other things on your mind.  Go ahead, give it a try at your next meal.

2. When feeling hungry, put on a coat of nail polish.  Bauer believes when you have a fresh coat of nail polish on your fingers, you won’t be reaching for food or eating anything and by the time it dries, your hunger has subsided.

3. Kissing! A passionate kiss can burn 6.4 calories a minute! So go ahead, brush your teeth (which also burns calories and subsides hunger) and get to smooching!

4. Imagine yourself eating. What? We can’t think about food while dieting! WRONG! If you imagine yourself eating what you crave, that part of brain becomes satisfied and your craving should ease or be gone! So go ahead, have a brownie in your mind.

5. Listen to god awful music while eating. You hate Miley Cyrus or Billy Ray Cyrus music so listen to it while eating.  Listening to music you hate while eating forces you mind to go into dislike mode.  So you dislike the music and you dislike eating.  You’ll eat a lot less!

6. Take a cold bath for 10 minutes. I’ve said this one a few times before. If you sit in a cold bathtub for 10 minutes, you burn about 200 calories. Your body will start using energy to warm your body and energy is burned by calories.  Don’t make it Titanic cold though, the life boats won’t be coming.

7. Walk backwards. Harvard (that’s a big name) has concluded that you burn more calories walking in reverse than forward because you exert more energy.  Just make sure you turn your head to see where you’re going and be careful.

8. Do something nice. A Harvard (again, big name) study found that doing nice things like donating to charity or helping a friend in need, boosts your willpower and increases your physical endurance. So hit the gym after you donate to the ASPCA.

Pretty interesting ways to lose weight, eh?

Cold Bath for ten minutes, not sure I could do that one. I have heard the do something nice one though.. That sounds great.

These are kind of funny but interesting. I think if I just padlock my fridge and pantry all would be well LOL.

Interesting ideas, maybe I will let my teenager put her ipod on shuffle while we eat and see if it works!

It kinda makes me laugh, but yet they make good sense! I need to paint my nails immediately after dinner every night to avoid that late night snack!

Love the nail polish idea. I am going to try that. I never find time to put nail polish on, but often find time for a snack, so we will see how it goes.

Great tips.

One that I like.. when I am feeling snacky or hungry.. take the dogs for a walk. Good for me and them :)

These are great! I think I’ll try… all of them! Brushing my teeth helps, too, or chewing gum – then I get the sweet I’m craving, and chewing tricks my mind into thinking I’m eating, right?

#7 I have heard of numerous times to do while walking (for exercise not general walking) to burn more calories and to work different muscles.

During times of high snacking:
go brush your teeth or rinse with one of the new products that either whiten or rebuilds enamel. First we all can use the benefits, but … if you read the fine print, you are not to eat or drink for 30 minutes in order to allow the product to achieve the desired effect. Who reads the fineprint and understands there is no benefit if you brush, then grab a coffee for the commute. Just saying, if you need a reason to go 30 minutes without snacking or drinking a soda – try brushing your teeth.

I like the nail polish idea and the kissing. I too have heard to brush your teeth because you’re mouth is so fresh and clean you don’t want to mess it up by eating. Not to mention food doesn’t taste too good with the minty flavor of toothpaste.
