Day 4 of the 3 week weight loss course. I don’t want you to think that you can simply meditate to lose weight. But, I do want you to know that meditation will help you stay positive and staying positive (as you learned on Day 3) is key in losing weight. Once you learn how to clear your mind of all thoughts, keeping negative thoughts away will be easy as pie. Well, maybe pie isn’t the best comparison. Easy as fruit!
Meditation is simply clearing your mind of everything and finding inner peace. Stop for a few seconds, close your eyes and think about nothing. It’s not easy at first but believe me, with these tips and daily practice, you’ll be a pro in no time.
I believe that meditation is best accomplished early in the morning, before the rest of your family wakes up. If that’s not the best time for you, don’t sweat it. You can mediate at anytime, except right before you fall asleep. Meditation can ease you into sleeping and sleeping is not what you want to do. Why? Because when you fall asleep you dream and dreaming, as you know, is not clearing your mind of everything. So, first step, decide on a time to meditate. Make sure you haven’t ate anything for at least 2 hours before or drank anything with caffeine for at least an hour before.
Second, you need to be in a place of almost complete silence. When you hear constant noises, it can hinder your mind clearing ability. I meditate in my living room before my family wakes up. TV off, of course. Find a comfortable room and set it as your meditating room. Also, wear comfortable clothes!
Next, sit comfortably. I sit on the floor with my legs crossed and my hands on my knees. Picture the cliche image of someone meditating. That’s me. But you don’t have to do that. Sit on your couch. Sit in your chair. Sit anywhere comfortable where you can keep your back straight and your mind clear.
Now comes the meditating part. Close your eyes and take deep breaths (deep breathing relaxes you). Pick a mantra. Chose one word (like ummm) and repeat it over and over again, focusing only on that word. If your mind starts to wander, push those thoughts out of your mind and focus again on just your mantra.
Meditate for at least 20 minutes a day. Meditate multiple times a day (at least 2 to 3 hours apart) if your schedule allows.
Do NOT expect immediate results! Meditation is a lifelong practice and you will constantly be improving your meditation style. Your goal in meditation is to find your inner peace through clearing your mind. Believe me, within a week, you will know what the inner peace feels like.
This is just my favorite way to meditate. There are actually many ways to meditate and you can read about them in this free e-book: Easy Meditations It’s free and all links inside the e-book are my affiliate links, just so you know. But, you don’t have to buy anything to learn through the e-book.
Your assignment: Try mediation! Remember, this is about you (tomorrow’s subject) and meditation isn’t for everyone. But those that do meditate do live pretty positive lives. So try it!
