Tasty Hummus Recipe
by Annette Jones
I’ve always wondered about a good homemade tasty hummus recipe and what’s involved, the ingredients, how to make it and would I have to go through the process of soaking chickpeas, etc. Fortunately I have a friend who mentioned that she makes one although freely admits that she “stole” it from the Master Chef series.
This hummus recipe is quick, easy and tasty and I have adapted this ever so slightly to include a smoked paprika, however paprika works just as well, of course as it was featured on Master Chef after all!
400g tin/can organic chickpeas
½ clove of garlic
1 tbs organic tahini
1 pinch smoked paprika
½ cup cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
1 lemon – juiced
½ zest finely grated
This recipe doesn’t call for organic chickpeas or tahini, if this doesn’t suit you then just use ingredients that please you.
I use a food processor as it’s quick and cuts down on time. You could also use a blender if you have one.
Drain and rinse chickpeas and add to the food processor or blender. Bruise and add 1/2 a garlic clove, the tahini, smoked paprika, lemon juice and zest. Process or blend together on high until the texture changes and the ingredients are blended together. At this stage it will be chunky rather than smooth.
With the processor or blender still on, slowly add the olive oil until all the oil is added.
Serve with carrot and celery sticks and button mushrooms for a low fat healthy option or your favorite crackers or savory biscuits.
This tasty hummus recipe can be served with drinks or is just as good on toast for breakfast.
