Weight Loss Overwhelm

Have you ever felt like the whole process of losing weight is overwhelming, sending you into weight loss overwhelm? Or maybe you feel that you can’t watch TV, not even the news because every other commercial is for a weight loss product or program?

Relax, you are among friends here at weightlossmother.com, I think we can all relate to that issue.

Weight loss has almost become an obsession in this country and even if you are at a healthy weight you may feel the need to lose more weight, due to constant bombardment of commercials telling you that you need this product or that product to lose weight.

If you are feeling weight loss overwhelm by this barrage take a deep breath and consider the following:

Is it true?

Do I really need this product/program? What is it about this ad makes me feel overwhelmed, or is it that I have seen it 47 times during this 30 minute show? This will allow you to more accurately trace what’s happening with your feelings. Sometimes these commercials are annoying because they bring up our insecurities and sometimes they are just plain annoying. Separating that out will make it easier for you to deal with the overwhelm in a constructive way.

Is it helpful?

Lots of programs/products say they are helpful when they are dangerous or they would not be helpful for every condition.

Clean eating is going to be helpful to most people and certainly more helpful than say the grapefruit diet. However, you need to do an analysis of your needs and determine if the product or program is helpful to you. A great way to do this is to run it by a physician.

What’s REALLY bothering me?

If you’ve recently hit a weight loss plateau then maybe the commercials are bothering you because they remind you of how much you have left to lose. When that happens make sure you look at how far you have come rather than how much you have left to lose and make sure that you seek out support to help you through the process. In some cases it may be helpful to just turn off the TV for a while and/or put down the magazine advertisements. It can be very difficult to be a woman dealing with body image issues and working to reshape not just your body image, but your body while dealing with the constant barrage of thin, young, and beautiful firm bodies that the magazines put out there.

Make sure you don’t lose sight of your goals and that you don’t forget the gift that you are to the world, your community, your family, and your friends. Don’t let the advertisements run you into the ground or make you feel that your process is going too slowly, weight loss that is genuine and kept off, takes time.

You can’t do it over night and often times the weight being lost wasn’t put on over night either. It takes time to get the body up to speed, but if you keep going you will get there.
